Awen is a Welsh word for poetic inspiration.  It has historically been used to describe the divine inspiration of bards in the Welsh poetic tradition. At Awen Academy, awen is an icon that encapsulates the inspiration of the soul to express and nourish itself through dance, music, and training. It combines the duende, or spirit, that underlies dancing with the development of the mind and body through musicality, artistic expression, physical fitness, performance, and the integration of these into the whole of an individual’s life.  By studying dance with this objective, an individual absorbs the quality of life by sharpening the mind, body, and spirit.

Awen Academy is proud to include the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE® National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough 8 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. The ABT® National Training Curriculum consists of a comprehensive set of age-appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels. Primary through Level 7 will be taught by ABT® Certified Teacher, Abby Hudgins, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 7 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.
